Research

Economic History in Gothenburg has implemented extensive research for many years now. This research is rooted, both theoretically and methodologically, in history and social sciences, and it provides long-term perspectives of the development of society. There are five different research fields in which groups of researchers cooperate.

  • Business History
  • Macroeconomic history
  • Labour market and migration
  • History of agriculture and historical demography
  • Environmental economic history

These research profiles can be maintained to a large extent by means of external research grants. Over the past few years, nine major research projects have received funding from research councils and foundations. Besides this, researchers at the Department are also participating in projects at other departments and universities and taking part in international networks and projects. In the autumn of 2008, the Söderberg Foundation (Söderbergska Stiftelsen) decided to give donate funding for a professorship in Business History, based at the Department in Gothenburg.

There are some 25 researchers at the Department, including professors, associate professors and doctoral candidates.
